A little about me and the boat.

For starters I can't spell so please accept that.

The boat name is a mashup of mine and my wifes name. It was my late farther that came up with it. 20 years ago I had a Roberts 34 called Bezique which I was informed is a French card game. My dad made me a timber name plate with the name Melady carved into it. It must of taken him an age to complete with basic hand tools. Being a new, inexperianced and superstitious sailor I wasn't willing to change the boats name. So in his honour my 580 will be called Melady.

I was first introduced to sailing when I was as a young teenager on a Mirror dingy and another plastic boat I can't remember the type. Sailing on Coniston Water in the Lake District UK.

I owned Bezique for about 5 seasons and sailed in Irish Sea mainly around Anglsey North Wales and the Ribble Estary also to Peel Island numerous times. I have done an Ocean passage as delivery crew from Bangor North Wales to a Coruña North West Spain. We missed out the Bay of Biscay by sailing a large dogleg out into the Atlantic from Southern Ireland sailing South South West before taking back South South East to a Coruña. 750nm.

As of 1st Febuary 2026 I am 3 1/2 moths into this build and loving it.
